April 2005

Medication Therapy Management Services (MTMS):
Payments for MTMS will be available to pharmacists in 2006 under the new Medicare Modernization Act. Just filling Rx's may not be enough to keep your doors open in the future. Visit the website www.getoutcomes.com and learn how you can take advantage of the MTMS available for reimbursement.

Managed Care:
If you thought reading a 2-3 page PBM contract was difficult, wait till you see the 10-15 page contract offers for the new Medicare Drug Program starting in January 2006. If you sign each contract as it comes across your desk; we wish you well.
If you want professionals to read & decipher these offers, then you should take advantage of the Managed Care Programs available to you. Those endorsed by Keystone include:
Performance Plus Network For AmerisourceBergen stores
LeaderNet For Cardinal Health stores
EPN Network Not Wholesaler dependent
United Drugs Not Wholesaler dependent

Insights from Barry Jacobs R.Ph. Director of Professional Affairs
Do you have a Diabetic Department, you should. Offer samples of your diabetic cookies, candy, etc to your customers as they wait for their Rx.
You can't judge a book by its cover, they say, but dirty front windows don not help your image. Toss old outdated signs and have the windows washed at least once a week.
To increase sales of condoms, try displaying them in two places, the men's department & the feminine hygiene department.

Audit Questions: From the February issue of America's Pharmacist.
Q: An auditor asked to use one of my terminals to access information. Should I allow the auditor to operate my pharmacy computer?
A: Absolutely not! Only an employee of the pharmacy should access any information viewed.
HIPAA only records of patients covered by the third-party administrator conducting the audit should be viewed.

Editors Note:
The PARD, our parent company, continues to work every day on your behalf politically and legislatively. A substantial part of their financial support is derived from their investment in Keystone. Using NON-ENDORSED vendors hurts the PARD, Keystone & ultimately YOUR STORE. We are proud of our relationships with our Primary Wholesalers:
AmerisourceBergen, Cardinal Health & Kinray.
