Hospice Claims
CMS has instructed Part D plans that they should not be paying for claims for medications that are the responsibility of a hospice provider, particularly in long-term care facilities. Hospice care is a Medicare Part A benefit. Therefore, drugs provided by hospice are not covered under Medicare Part D.
Pharmacies need to be certain that they are not submitting hospice claims to Part D plan sponsors. Any hospice claims submitted to a Part D plan will be retroactively recovered.
